Sip Happy: 3 Kombucha Mocktails/Cocktails to Try This Week

Kombucha and cocktails have more in common than you'd think; both reward good ingredients and a little patience. Since our kombucha is already naturally carbonated and layered with flavor from a 2,000-year-old fermentation tradition, it makes an excellent stand-in for the soda water or juice in your usual cocktail.

The rule of thumb: take any of our mocktail recipes and add 1.5–2 oz of your preferred spirit. Here's where to start.

Spirit Pairings by Flavor

Elderberry

  • Best spirit pairings: White Rum, Gin, Prosecco

  • Flavor profile: Fruity, bright, aromatic

Lemon-Ginger

  • Best spirit pairings: Bourbon, Mezcal, Dark Rum

  • Flavor profile: Spicy, warming, complex

Try It: Elderberry Mule, Cocktail Version

Start with our Elderberry Mule mocktail:

Muddled mint, lime juice, and ginger syrup, topped with Elderberry kombucha over ice in a copper mug.

Add 1.5 oz white rum or gin for a fizzy, fruit-forward take on a classic mule.

Try It: Spicy Ginger Mojito, Cocktail Version

Muddle mint, lime juice, and agave, add a fresh ginger slice and crushed ice, then top with Lemon-Ginger kombucha.

Stir in 1.5–2 oz bourbon or mezcal for a smoky, warming twist on a mojito.

Mixing Tips

  • Add the kombucha last, after the spirit, it keeps the fizz intact

  • Use large ice cubes so your cocktail doesn't water down before you finish it

  • Taste as you go; kombucha's natural tang can stand up to bolder spirits like mezcal and dark rum

What to Serve Alongside

  • Elderberry: Dark chocolate, berry desserts, roasted poultry, charcuterie

  • Lemon-Ginger: Asian cuisine, spicy foods, ginger cookies, sharp cheddar

However you're pouring it, we hope it's a good one. Tag us #HappyHermitTeasandTonics and let us know which pairing became your new favorite.
